Not Cool to Wear Holiday Jewelry

Not Cool to Wear Holiday Jewelry

I know many of us jewelry makers get very busy this time of year because we are making jewelry gifts for friends and families. Many of us also sell our jewelry at shows as well. Part of the fun of this time of year is also making holiday themed jewelry and ornaments, and over the years I have post a pretty good number of projects for this purpose.

But when is it not cool to wear your fun and funky holiday jewelry around?

I had two situations that came up recently where I had to go some place and look at least semi professional which means not wearing my usually t shirt and nylon exercise pants. I was about to reach for some earrings I made using some Christmas themed lampwork beads, and then I had this image in my head: Im walking along and happen to accidently meet up with Dr. Important. He looks down at me and notices my ginger bread men earrings. Yikes!

Am I just being my usual overly concerned self? Or, is this something other jewelry people think about?

5 Lynn says:Not wear holiday jewelry because of the situation? Feh. I may not wear a certain STYLE because the situation is a little more formal, but I think you can get away with almost anything this time of year.

I have some holiday tree earrings on my site that are perfect for dress up or jeans. I wear them all the time, as do my coworkers all of them received them as gifts one year, including a Vice President.

Maybe the gingerbread earrings aren applicable for a very formal or business meeting temper it to the person you are meeting but once a year, can we relax and have a bit of fun? That part of what the holidays are all about.

8 Mary says:I see this as qnother way for the whiners to complain I wear what I want, when I want if that offends someone, they should not wear their feelings on their sleeves. If I made it I am proud of it and will wear it anywhere except a funeral, that is the only place I think is a no no. Otherwise, wear what You want, be proud of your art!

9 Karen says:I think it IS appropriate to wear your holiday jewelry, especially if you made it. It is who you are. Even Mr. Right needs to know who you really are it will come out eventually anyway. I avoid wearing holiday or jewelry to a job interview, or as others have said, to a funeral. Otherwise, be yourself.

10 Evelyn says:there is a time and a place for everything including holiday jewelry. It is not appropriate to wear casual sports wear to a formal party, so why would anyone wear casual jewelry when dressed formally? Jewelry is the finishing touch to any attire, and it needs to suit the attire and the occasion.
